Vacations, Site-Seeing, and Travelling...
... can be a fulfilling and rewarding hobby. Seeing new places, new landscapes, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures and histories are all great benefits.
Through travelling, you can take your other hobby interests with you on the road and broaden your enjoyment.
Here are some Guidelines for Travelling for a Hobby:
Big Picture Game Plan
Define long term goals for your Travel Hobby. Here is a sample itinerary for an imaginary year of travel. Create your own master wish list and work through it over the years.
Right Place
Based on your other interests and hobbies, select travel destinations that provide you with a number of activities to meet your interests. Poker fan? Then Vegas is on your list.
... and Right Time
Choosing the season and time of year is just as crucial. Sometimes just a few weeks difference will have a major impact on your vacation. Peak seasons and crowds sometimes should be avoided at all costs. Whereas at other locations, the crowds are their for a good reason. Avoid the crowds and you miss the reason for going there.
Appreciate Nature
Many destinations are probably on your list because they are beautiful beaches, mountain retreats or something in-between. Each area is unique and take the time to appreciate Nature and the great outdoors. In many areas, the wild is being infringed upon by suburbia. Appreciate what we have and include this as part of the hobby of travel.
Understand the History
Your destination location of choice probably has a rich heritage in terms of geology and how the land was formed, and how the land was settled and fought over by earlier generations. Appreciating what the area was like for past generations is a great way to connect with a vacation spot.
Explore and Sample Everything
We live in a world where franchise businesses guarantee quality because they make everything the same. Why travel half way around the world for the same? Explore the local offerings and avoid the chains and franchises. Sample the local specialties and go off the beaten path.
Plan for a Return Trip
Your first trip to a new location will always be memorable but you may not be able to see and do everything. So, spend some time planning out what you will do or where you will stay if you come back. It gives you an excellent reason to explore!
Don't Forget to Look Local
Travelling, Tourisim and Site Seeing doesn't have to be expensive. Your local area probably has a number of sites and trips just waiting for you that are quite affordable since you're already there. Many places offer local discounts and off season specials so, traveling can include in your own back yard.
As with all hobbies, decide what interests you and invest some time and energy. You'll get back what you put in. Travelling and site seeing has a huge potential to expand your horizons.
